St. Louis NORML Protests Political Prosecution of Marijuana Reformer

Keegan Hamilton of the Riverfront Times posted an article about today’s Marc Emery Day protest at the courthouse downtown by Greater St. Louis NORML - check it out here: St. Louis NORML Chapter Holding “Prince of Pot” Protest Tomorrow

Today’s protest is going to be downtown at the Mel Carnahan Criminal Courthouse at 1114 Market Street (the corner of Market and Tucker) at 4:00 P.M.

Hamilton writes:

“Emery is just another example of an otherwise law abiding citizen being sent to prison for a non-violent marijuana offense,” says St. Louis NORML director Joseph Welch. “Except his case is more political. He’s being singled out for his role in the marijuana legalization movement.”

Emery was targeted by the United States government not because he was just selling seeds in his storefront shop and online, but because he was an active and aggressive reformer.

[Emery] is the editor of Cannabis Culture magazine and the founder of the BC-based Marijuana Party (guess what they’re in favor of). Former U.S. Attorney John McKay called him “the biggest purveyor of marijuana from Canada into the United States” and the DEA claimed that marijuana seeds he sold via the Internet for 11 years resulted 1.1 million pounds of pot (worth an estimated $11 billion) being grown in this country.

St. Louis Marijuana Petition on the news

Our petition to decriminalize marijuana in the City of St. Louis made the news last night. Michelle Anselmo from Fox 2 came out to the 4/20 event at Fubar and did a story on the local marijuana reform movement. Of course they didn’t get my keynote speech, but you can see me in the background several times, and most importantly, they mentioned our petition.
